For many parents, helping your child who\nsuffers from ADHD can feel quite exhausting. Today, there are many classes and\nsolutions developed purely with the idea of helping your children cope with\ntheir condition. Sometimes, though, the options might just not feel diverse\nenough. One option that is being developed at the moment, though, is the use of\nvirtual reality for ADHD children<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtual reality has quietly exploded as\nthe next form of entertainment \u2013 a transformative means of interacting with the\nthings we enjoy. A new study by the UC David Medical Investigation of\nNeurodevelopmental Disorders Institute, though, shows promise that VR could be\nused to help ADHD sufferers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is going to help children suffering\nfrom the disorder to minimise distraction, according to their latest press\nrelease. The research lead on the study at the MIND Institute, Dr. Julie\nSchweitzer, said: \u201cI was talking to a parent who told me when she was in law\nschool studying for the bar she was studying in noisy cafes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEventually, she learned to block out\neverything around her. But now she wishes her son could learn to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim is to help use VR to give children\nan easier time practicing on focusing on objects of importance. It would not\ninvolve clinical treatment, and it would be something that could be used in\nreal-life situations. Part of the challenge with ADHD can come from helping\nchildren to focus on situations. With VR, the level of realism in the\nsituations they\u2019ll be focusing on can feel that bit more immersive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\npurpose of the study <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the research, then, is quite\nsimple. They will send each participant home with a VR headset, that is\nprogrammed to use a 25-minute training session per day. It would put them in a\nlocation where there are distractions that they need to overcome. The logic,\nthen, is that the children will become more used to distractions that could\notherwise snap their focus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, when they are in a real brick and\nmortar classroom, they should already be used to distraction. This should help\nthem to become much more alert to the matter at hand: the actual lesson. This\ncould cut down on distraction and maintain a higher level of day-to-day focus\nin the children. During the training, they\u2019ll be given a classroom-like\nenvironment, and go through an exposure therapy session. It\u2019s built upon the\nsame ideals where VR has been used to help those with anxiety, and could offer\nmuch of the same benefits to ADHD children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researchers\nwill be able to help children to become more focused and increase their score,\nreducing the likelihood that they will become distracted during lessons. For\nparents who worry about their children not taking in enough during education,\nthen, this could be the development that you desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until more detail is released from the\nfinding of the studies, though, at the moment this is just a theory. It will,\nthough, be very interesting to see the results of the study when they are\nfinally released. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
